This Week At School

This video shows how much our ducks and chickens (that we hatched in our classroom in the Spring) have grown!

In Math this week we were learning about adding zeros and how important they are. We read the book titled "Zero" by Kathryn Otoshi and learned a song called "You Are My Zero". Our class started practicing "Math Jobs" with our partners and have been doing a lot of counting forwards and backwards to and from 100.

"You Are My Zero"

(sang to the tune "You Are My Sunshine")

You are my zero
My only zero,
You make a number
Remain the same.

Just add a zero
To  any number,
And the number
Stays the same!

           Design Project: Making Individual Scarecrows

Each student designed their own scarecrow this week at school for Science. We were learning about objects, materials and textures. As a class our criteria included: 1) Size: about the distance from your elbow to your fingers 2) Aesthetics: is scarecrow secure or not secure(holds together) 3) Materials: 5-10 different materials/textures. We used our "Beautifil Stuff" from Artsjunktion.

As a class we had to decide how we would display our scarecrows. At first we wanted to stick our scarecrows in our individual pumpkins, but we will be using them for Math. Later we found our classroom gourds and pumpkins and thought we could fit them all in the large ones.
